The following statement was issued today by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:
The Secretary-General is concerned about the reports of the seizure of a Government building in Talas, Kyrgyzstan. He emphasizes that while freedom of assembly is an essential element of any democratic society, the rule of law must be respected. He calls on all concerned to show restraint and appeals for dialogue.
