The following statement was issued today by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:
The Secretary-General strongly condemns the terror attack yesterday on a border checkpoint in the Sinai, which killed 16 Egyptian police officers and injured others as they were breaking the Ramadan fast, and was followed by the penetration of the border into Israel, putting Israeli citizens potentially at risk. Such attacks are totally unacceptable.
The Secretary-General hopes that the perpetrators will be swiftly identified and brought to justice. He expresses his condolences to the families of the victims and wishes those injured a speedy recovery.
